3 female illustrators to follow on instagram

Instagram is my favorite social media and there are tons of interesting people to follow. Not just photographers are using this medium anymore, you can also find tons of artists and illustrators. It is easy to find lots of creatives to be inspired by. A growing number of women doodlers, painters, and graphic designers are taking their talents to Instagram, flipping the script on the app that often known for food pictures and and highly edited selfies.

Gemma Correll (@gemmacorrell)

Gemma’s illustrations are great. She will often draw on serious topics like depression and anxiety, but in a relatable way. Gemma is a cartoonist, writer, illustrator and describes herself as an “all-round small person”. She speaks to my not so inner cat person and introverted tendencies.

Ira Sluyterman van Langeweyde (@iraville)

Ira is one of my new favorites. I love her cute whimsical style. She is an illustrator based in Munich with a passion for watercolors, autumn, nature, birds and cozy things. She uses watercolor for character design and will often post her works in progress which is fun to watch.

Sarah Andersen (@sarahandersencomics)

Andersen’s webcomic primarily features the messy-haired protagonist Sarah, who has to deal with social anxiety, body image issues, and laziness. It is perfect. Often when looking at her stuff I can’t help but think – that is so true! Her work is truly inspired.

With all three, their talent as artists stands out because they have discovered their own distinct style. Style is important as a visual artist, it’s essentially what distinguishes them from other artists, and what keeps their work looking professional, cohesive, and focused. Style isn’t just about the way their artwork looks, the subject matter and the things they are communicating and representing are just as important. I hope you are as inspired by their work as I am. Go out and find them on the ‘gram!. Who are some of your favorite illustrators?
