I had the chance to see some of Romare Bearden’s work at the Whitney Museum several years ago. During the time that I saw his show I was working with mixed media and exploring collage in my own artwork. His mixed media work and collages were incredible to me. I was really attracted to his use of vivid color and texture.

He remains one of my favorite artists to this day. His work has a distinct style and a slightly abstract feel. His collages often portrayed images of everyday life and this gives them a very intimate and personal feel. His skill in combining paint and collage is especially impressive. I recommend you check his work out in person if you ever have an opportunity.
