Musée d’Orsay

I fully expected the Louvre to be my most memorable museum experience in Paris. However, the Musée d’Orsay took me by surprise. Like the Louvre they have a beautiful collection of paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. But unlike the Louvre you can experience and absorb all that the Musée d’Orsay has to offer in one day.

The Musée d’Orsay has mainly impressionistic work and modern French art, which is almost totally missing in the Louvre. My favorite sculpture was the L’Aurore by Denys Puech (the rendering of wet hair is unique and incredible). The opportunity to see some Van Gogh’s pieces in person is worth the trip alone. The museum drowns you in works by Delacroix, Monet, Manet, Cezanne, and Renoir. It’s amazing, and people realize it. This place should definitely be on the “to do” list if you are ever in Paris, it would be a shame to miss it.
